September is Perfect for Outdoors

Something is always sad about August and the end of the summer season. As Don Henley sings in The Boys of Summer, "summer is out of reach".

But September gives us an opportunity to still get a few of the bucket items in before the leaves turn. Days still are warm and the humidity is gone. The Jersey shore is still alive (as all locals know). Many businesses are still open, the beaches are free and the traffic is light. Sit at the local restaurant on the water and enjoy the sunset with your favorite drink. Or, get in another weekend on the boat. Don't forget to grab an ice cream before the weather gets too cold. (Be aware, some ice cream shops will shutter for the season later this month.)

If the shore isn't motivating you, check out one of the many vineyards and breweries across the state. From beer to hard cider, you won't be disappointed by the low key vibe and friendly patrons. Old York Cellars Winery & Vineyard, in Ringoes, is beautiful and boasts great food too. Jersey Girl Brewing located in Mount Olive has music all month. Or for a twist, take a ride to Bedminster and check out the Burnt Mills Cider for a mango berry cider and something delicious on the food trucks weekends. For a trip to south, Slack Tide Brewing has music, food trucks, cigars, games and Yappy Hours to accompany your beer.

Stop at a winery for vino and a view.

September also means a wave of musical festivals and street fairs. If you missed the concerts this summer, you still have a chance to listen to live music. Check out the Sea. Hear, Now. running from the 14th-15th in Asbury Park. (Maybe you will see Bruce Springsteen!) Also, XPoNential Festival is on the Camden waterfront from the 20th to the 22nd.

And absolutely start planning for Oktoberfest celebrations, some of which are late September. Red Bank will celebrate on September 21st. There is everything you can roll into the month including: food, drinks, family activities, music, crafts and more.

Don't forget: the last day of summer is the 21st! Enjoy the last days in all its splendor.
