Let's Do Brunch Jersey Style!

Breakfast on a typical day is uneventful. Rushing to work, school or errands often overshadows the first meal of the day. That's why weekend Brunch is a special occurrence. It is a wonderful way to meet with friends or family and slow down a little over comfort food and coffee. New Jersey has many great spots to enjoy breakfast such as diners and cafes. But elevating breakfast to an experience is a whole other level of dining.

We took a little tour of some of the best places for brunch and breakfast. Here are some standouts:

With four locations across North and South Jersey, the pancakes and breakfast food is fun and oversized. Everything is delicious, but as the names says, it is all about the pancakes. From pigs in a blanket and Oreos to Cinnamon swirl, be prepared to eat well. If you really object to pancakes, there is French Toast, Waffles, burgers, omelets and more. And just in case you have some room, order one of their mind-blowing milk shakes. Kids love them!

Tucked away in Madison, is the Butter and Jam Cafe. Another family-friendly place, they specialize in home-made biscuits and other carb-filled delectable items accompanied with special jams and butters. The varied menu also includes a selection of gourmet toasts, pancakes, French Toast, Eggs Benedict, skillets and sandwiches. Don't miss sharing the crispy artichoke hearts with a friend! Of course, if you are ready to move on from breakfast foods, B&J has salads, burgers and more.

Blue Cafe is a popular spot where people come from near and far. You will wait for a table as long as an hour (no reservations), but the food is delightful and fresh. From the breakfast platters, to pancakes, salads and sandwiches, you will love the food and quaint setting. Try it in the warmer weather and sit outside for views of historic Basking Ridge. For a special treat, get the Polish specialties, fresh juices or a latte.

If Blue Cafe is too busy, it is a short trip to the Grain House at the Olde Mill Inn. Sit in the historic building and enjoy a solid meal of dependable and diverse favorites.

Heading a little south to Somerville, you will find DeMartino's--a Cuban Restaurant. Add a little Latin flair to your meal in this cozy spot. Try a Sangria or Espresso while you wait for Bacon Guava Jam Avocado Toast, Carne Asada Omelet, Chicken and Waffles, Signature Tres Leches French Toast or Blueberry Buttermilk Ricotta Pancakes. This is another highly popular spot with limited seating, so be prepared to wait or call ahead.
