One of the best things about Spring are the beautiful flowers that bloom. From the first Daffodil to the bud of a Tulip, those early signs of life renew and inspire us to take in their beauty. The warmer days are ahead and outdoor activities abound. These are all a celebration!
New Jersey is lucky to have many beautiful places to go see gardens and flowers throughout the seasons. And this month kicks off many months of colorful displays. Each location gives visitors the opportunity to walk along paths, take photos, sit quietly in peace or enjoy nature with a friend or loved one.
In Summit, the Reeves-Reed Abroretum is one of those places. It boasts an amazing history--including the Revolutionary War--that puts it on the National and State Registers of Historic Places. Set on a former estate built in the late 1800s, its landscape has many features and of the work completed in the 20th century. The Reed family, along with local residents, preserved the estate in the 1970s. One of the most amazing spectacles is the sea of Daffodils every Spring.
Of course, there are many other beautiful spots too. Sit under a Cherry Blossom, enjoy the water feature or the majestic Magnolias. Donations to the foundation are always welcome.
A short drive away is the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morristown which is part of the county park system. Sit on the lawn or walk around the trails and gardens. Originally called Whippany Farm, it was given to the county in 1969 by the Frelinghuysen family according to its website. Guests will be greeted with a seasonal display at the guest center. As the weather improves the Roses come into bloom. The Rose garden is located behind the estate home and worth the walk over. There you will find fountains, another seasonal display and benches to enjoy the beautiful and fragrant roses.
For your Tulip gazing in South Jersey, there is Dalton Farms in Sweedsboro and Holland Farm in Cream Ridge. Both farms allow you to pick your flowers with endless rows of color to enjoy. It is great for the kids or as a group activity. See their websites for more information and tickets.
If you are in Northern part of the state, stop by the New Jersey Botanical Gardens at Skylands located in Ringwood. They have a number of gardens across the property including fragrant Lilacs and Azaleas. Don't miss the Italianate Garden with a variety of species including Peony.
There are many more beautiful places across central portions of the state too, including Monmouth County, Somerset County and the Princeton areas.
Remember to make these a stop this Spring and enjoy all the beauty and serenity for which you can ask. As you visit, be respectful of the grounds and the other guests in order to maintain the peaceful setting for all.
